A war surgeon undergoing an existential crisis, aggravated by post-traumatic stress disorder, recreates a human being from body parts and is able to give it life. With Depraved, Larry Fessenden, one of the popes of independent fantastic film, makes a dazzling entry into the long list of film adaptations of Mary Shelley´s novel, a tradition dating back to the original Frankenstein by Tod Browning (1931), and which undergoes successive versions, parodies and variations, from that by Terence Fisher with Peter Cushing in the 50s, to the one by Kenneth Branagh with Robert De Niro, and including those by Paul Morrissey and Mel Brooks.
