Eleanor Roosevelt is the inspiration behind FLAD’s new podcast, written by Raquel Vaz Pinto and Pedro Vieira. Recorded live at FLAD’s Auditorium and open to the public, ‘As Amigas de Eleanor’ will bring you the stories of extraordinary women every month, to whom history has not always recognized their place. The first live episode is on September 18th at 18:30.
After the podcasts ‘Atlantic Talks’ and ‘Era Uma Vez Duas Pessoas’, FLAD is launching ‘As Amigas de Eleanor’. Recorded live and open to the public, Raquel Vaz Pinto and Pedro Vieira will meet monthly at FLAD to talk about the stories of extraordinary women who have distinguished themselves in politics, education, science, the arts and who have marked the past, present and future. Eleanor Roosevelt will be the “trigger” to talk about women, overcoming, human rights, (in)justice, gender inequality, racism, power and emancipation. In the words of the authors, “we are going to talk about figures to whom History has not always recognized the place and to whom only Democracy can do justice”.
In the first episode – ‘Thank you, Eleanor’ – Raquel Vaz Pinto and Pedro Vieira will go through the biography of Eleanor Roosevelt, the figure who sets the tone for the podcast: her civic and political participation, as a woman with initiative in a context of male domination. From there, they will move on to discuss the challenges faced by women in accessing important positions, introducing concepts such as the glass ceiling.
The podcast episodes will be recorded live in FLAD’s auditorium every month and then broadcast on the podcast platforms and youtube. The premiere takes place on September 18 at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free for everyone who wants to attend. Just send your attendance confirmation to fladport@flad.pt.
