State Senator || Senate President Ronald D. Kouchi is the great-grandson of a Portuguese from São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, who arrived in Hawaii in 1883. He was appointed to the State Senate in 2010 and chosen by his colleagues to be Senate President in 2015. Since then, and with his fellow representatives on Kauai, they have delivered $1.1 billion to move aggressively towards ensuring financial sustainability and enabling future growth. Prior to that, he was Vice Chairman of the Senate Committees on Tourism, Agriculture and Ways and Means. Senator Kouchi also served as Majority Caucus Leader and Vice President of the Senate. Kouchi also served 11 terms on the Kauai County Council.
