Born in Portland, Maine, USA, in 1956, Elizabeth Strout is one of the most acclaimed American novelists today. In 2009, he won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction with the work Olive Kitteridge, which quickly became a worldwide success. The novel, adapted into a television series, depicts the life and relationships of fearsome now-retired high school math teacher Olive Kitteridge in Crosby, a sleepy coastal town in Maine. In addition to the success of this work, the American writer was distinguished with the Los Angeles Times Art Seidenbaum Award and the Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize with her debut novel Amy and Isabelle. Strout also has eight more books of his own, such as My Name is Lucy Barton (finalist for the Booker Prize), Everything is possible (winner of the Story Prize), Oh, William! and Lucy by the Sea, among others – all of them critically acclaimed. Tell Me Everything (available on February 3 in Portugal with an edition by Alfaguara) is the writer’s latest book, released in 2024, where Olive Kitteridge and Lucy Barton – two of the main characters of her works – unexpectedly meet. Considered by The Washington Post as “A bucolic fable, built with the brilliant literary ingenuity of Strout”, the novel brings us hope, empathy and gratitude, about the strength of love and friendship, the passage of time and the power of memory. Elizabeth Strout will be talking about her new book and other work with PÚBLICO journalist Isabel Lucas on February 13, at 6:30 pm, in the FLAD Auditorium, at Rua do Sacramento à Lapa, 21, in Lisbon. The session is subject to registration through this link. If you need additional clarification, please email us at eventos.cultura@flad.pt.
