Scholarship for Portuguese students accepted at the University of California, Berkeley,to develop research under their Doctorate.

In order to contribute to the development of the Portuguese scientific and academic community, FLAD in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley, awards a grant to Portuguese doctoral students who wish to develop their PhD research thesis at UC Berkeley.

Applicants must be doctoral students from Portuguese universities who have already been accepted at the University of California, Berkeley, to develop their research.

Applications for the academic year 2021/2022

  • The grant will benefit a Portuguese student included in a PhD program at a Portuguese university;
  • All scientific fields are considered;
  • This open call is for the academic year of 2021/2022;
  • The length of stay at UC Berkeley can range from a minimum of 3 months to a maximum of 12 months;

Grant Value

  • The grant has a total value of $10.000;
  • $5.000 will be made available directly by FLAD to the grantee;
  • $5.000 is intended to cover the University of California, Berkeley’s fees for obtaining a visa and access to the University’s academic structure;
  • This amount does not include health insurance;

Documentation required:

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • CV;
  • Description of the outlined study plan (maximum 3 pages);
  • Motivation letter;
  • Letter of recommendation from the Portuguese institution to which you are linked;
  • Letter of acceptance from the University of California, Berkeley as a visiting researcher;
  • A budget of the stay and indication of other sources of funding and approved amounts;

Deadlines:

  • The application period is open until the 31st of May 2021.
  • The result of the selection will be communicated to applicants by e-mail address by June 30th, 2021.
  • Within 90 days after the conclusion of the grant period, a report shall be sent to FLAD.
