FLAD maintains its commitment to supporting the arts with the launch of a new award dedicated to Drawing. This initiative aims to support the production and artistic innovation in Portugal. Applications are open between June 15th and 30th.
In order to recognize the artistic talent in Portugal, but also to support the promising young artists of our country, the Foundation launched this Thursday the first edition of FLAD’s Drawing Award, which will have an annual periodicity.
The area of artistic production chosen was Drawing, for its important representation in FLAD’s Collection of Contemporary Art and for constituting an artistic expression of a very intimate relationship with the art creator.
Award
The award has a maximum value of twenty thousand euros (€ 20.000,00).
Candidates profile
- Artists in the area of Drawing.
- Portuguese nationality or residents of Portugal for more than 5 years.
- 28 years old or older at the date of application.
Evaluation
The selected artist will be chosen after an analysis of the applications in two stages:
- Phase 1: The submitted applications will be analyzed by the jury that will make a selection of up to 10 finalist artists. The decision will be announced to the candidates by September 15, 2021.
- Phase 2: From the set of finalist artists, determined in the 1st phase, the international jury will select the winner, which will be announced during the Drawing Room Lisbon 2021, taking place between October 27th and 31st of 2021.
Jury
The applications will be analyzed by a national and international jury, consisting of personalities of recognized capacity and experience in the artistic area.
Phase 1:
- Rui Sanches, sculptor and university professor.
- Mónica de Miranda, artist, researcher and founder of the Hangar project.
- Sandra Vieira Jürgens, critic, art historian, editor and curator.
- Rui Gueifão, artist and critic.
- Filipa Nunes, cultural manager and curator.
Phase 2:
- Jorge Martins, artist.
- Mónica Álvarez Careaga, director of the Drawing Room Lisbon.
- FLAD representative to be appointed.
Applications
The deadline for applications runs from the 15th to the 30th of June of 2021.
Applications must be made online by completing a specific form (available on the date of application, June 15th, here) and accompanied by the following documents:
- Candidate’s CV in PDF.
- Candidate’s portfolio (max. 25 pages). Applicants who so wish can also send the portfolio by mail to the address of FLAD (R. do Sacramento à Lapa 21, 1249-090 Lisbon).
