Under the glow of the Las Vegas lights, the popular bar known as Roaring 20s is on the verge of closing its doors for good. Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets is a mosaic of disparate lives, oscillating between dignity and debauchery, bearing the brunt of the past, facing an uncertain future, and whistling to the side as the ship sinks. Brothers Bill and Turner Ross (of whom we saw, in Outsiders I, the handsome “Tchoupitoulas”) return with an elegiac portrait of a small world in disappearance, but whose heart still beats with the comfort of community. The filmmakers’ characteristic, seductive and intimate approach to non-fiction storytelling creates a hazy memory of experiences lost in empty glasses and clouds of smoke.
