The film contextualizes the works of Emily Dickinson, bringing to light a little-known side of the writer´s life, her relationship with another woman. Skillfully and with humor, Olnek uses several devices (an untrustworthy narrator; the intertwining of several eras from Dickinson´s childhood to the years following her death; the action commentary through a voice-over of some poems) which transform Wild Nights with Emily into a non-conventional biography of one of the rare female poets in the American literary canon.
