FLAD wants to know the opinion of young people about the American presidential elections and will award the three best texts. The POINT OF VIEW contest is open to young people between 18 and 23 years of age who want to write a text on U.S. domestic or foreign policy, in the context of the U.S. leadership election that will pit Joe Biden against Donald Trump on November 5. The best article will be published by SÁBADO magazine and its author will win 2,000 euros.

In an increasingly interconnected world, elections in the United States leave no one indifferent. Every day we are confronted with news about American politics and the impact that elections will have, possibly for decades – on relations between countries, on the fight against climate change, on the maintenance of democracy or on the fight for more diverse, inclusive and just societies.

FLAD wants to know how young people, potentially the most affected by this decision, see the U.S. elections on November 5. What interests them, what worries them and what motivates them in the most different topics of today.

To this end, we created POINT OF VIEW, a contest that will reward the three best texts about the American elections – domestic or foreign policy – written by young people between 18 and 23 years old, of Portuguese nationality or living in Portugal for more than 5 years.

Prizes:
• 1st Prize: 2,000 euros and publication of the text in SÁBADO magazine;
• 2nd Prize: 1,000 euros to be awarded to the two second best texts, in ex aequo.

All you have to do is submit an original text (not previously published) with your view on a topic of domestic or foreign policy of the United States, which demonstrates its relevance in the context of the elections in Portuguese, and which does not exceed 3,500 characters with spaces.

How to submit the application?

Applications must be submitted through the online form available at this link: https://flad.secure.force.com/CandidaturaMain?language=pt_PT.
On the form, candidates submit their text, along with their CV. Only applications made through this form will be accepted.

The application period runs from May 23 to August 7, 2024.

How are candidates evaluated?

Applications will be reviewed by FLAD, which will select the three winners.

For a better assessment of the candidates’ knowledge on the topic addressed in the article, they may be interviewed by the FLAD team.
