Statutes
The Luso-American Foundation is a Portuguese institution, established on the 20th of May of 1985 (Decree-Law n.º 168/85). The Foundation aims to contribute to the economic and social development of Portugal by promoting scientific, technical, cultural, educational, commercial and business cooperation between Portugal and the United States of America.
In order to ensure this goal, the Foundation assists activities aimed at modernizing the Portuguese economy, to increase investment and export levels, to promote business associations between the private sectors of both countries and, in general, to support activities promoting adequate forms of cooperation between Portugal and the United States of America which are of mutual interest to both countries and in line with the strategic guidelines of the economic and social development in force.
Under Portuguese law, the Foundation was constituted as a legal entity of private law and public utility, autonomous in the pursuit of its statutory purposes. In order to ensure the conditions to embed the Foundation’s guidelines in the country’s overall economic development and modernization strategy, its statutes were modified by the Decree-Law n.º 45/88 on the 11th of February of 1988 and subsequently by the Decree-Law n.º. 288/91 on the 10th of August of 1991, n.º 90/94, on the 7th of April of 1994 and n.º 107/13 on the 31st of July of 2013.
Public Funding
The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), as managing entity for the afri-Cá II and Integr.arte-E5G projects, received the following funds from the Program Escolhas:

- 2012: € 44,825.45
- 2013: € 77,352.32
- 2014: € 64,511,36
- 2015: € 46,815,91
- 2016: € 16,718.98
All of these amounts were used by FLAD to pay the expenses of the aforementioned projects.
Under the “Estágios-Emprego” measure of the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training, the Luso-American Development Foundation received the following funds:

- 2014: € 7,086.42
- 2015: € 17,368.29
- 2016: € 16,534.98
All of these amounts were used for the payment of seven traineeships: three in 2014 and four between October 2015 and July 2016. In 2015, the Luso-American Development Foundation received the amount of €44,500 from the U.S. State Department through the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon for the development of the “Connect to Success” initiative.
